We are excited to announce that BMY Health Pakistan is seeking experienced Research Mentors to join our team and contribute to nurturing the next generation of researchers. This position offers a unique opportunity to guide and shape the development of research projects by our interns.

 

Job Details

Organization: BMY Health

Title: Senior Researcher

Job Type and Location: Part-time, Remote

Hours: 1 hour per meeting estimated

Timings: between 9-11 pm PKT

Compensation: An honorarium of *PKR 2000 per Meeting as a mentor (total 12 meetings expected during project); Authorship will be given for additional support besides meetings to complete the manuscript for journal publication.

Contract Duration: 3/ 4 months depending upon project duration

Reporting Structure: Reporting directly to the Program Director.

*Mentors with access to data or having strong ideas and research topics with knowledge of data resources will be preferred. Busy professionals with access to data but lack of time can also add their assistant to support their mentoring with the incentive of authorship for the assistant. Mentors providing data will be compensated with 3000 PKR per meeting as mentor.


Responsibilities

  • Mentorship: Assess the goals of interns in the start and provide advice and encouragement for supporting their goals and development.
  • Research Oversight: Guide interns on research methodologies, data analysis plans, and manuscript presentation, including critical review and approval of proposals and manuscript
  • Intellectual Guidance: Offer constructive intellectual input to assist interns in the ideation and execution of their research projects. 
  • Topic Selection: Help interns select innovative research topics leveraging your subject expertise and ensure the finalization of high-quality research questions. 
  • Feedback: Provide timely and constructive feedback on intern assignments to enhance the quality and integrity of their research. 
  • Data Presentation: Follow BMY Health standards of advanced statistical analysis and innovative presentation of data.
  • Availability: Commit to weekly scheduled mentoring session and be reasonably available to address intern queries.
  • Authorship: Also play role as author in the project.

Skills required

  • Expertise in any basic or clinical field of medicine
  • Research methodology, study designs, awareness of handling biases.
  • Knowledge of biostatistics
  • Manuscript writing and publishing in health journals.
  • Good English skills
  • Mentorship
  • Critical thinking, analytical skills, and creativity for presenting data.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, SPSS
  • Familiar with digital workspaces/ collaboration platforms or comfortable to explore
  • Experience and expertise in at least one robust study design and complete information of its application, limitations, and biases.

  • Support: The Internship Director will provide necessary resources and support to empower you in your mentoring role and research and data analysis skills required in the project.


  • Communication: The Internship Coordinator will ensure smooth communication between mentors and interns and address any concerns swiftly. The Coordinator will make sure the research assignments are completed by interns in time and submitted to mentor for intellectual review and further guidance.


  • Additional support: Where clinician mentors are not confident to hold data analysis meetings for confounding control & interaction, regression, risk estimates, population parameters estimation and prediction of variables, additional mentors maybe added in the study (from biostatistics/ epidemiology field) for these meetings in projects requiring advanced analysis. However, all mentors applying for program must know what different analysis can be applied and how analysis decision affects tool development and study design.

Scope of work

This Internship Program is part of a Research Mentoring program being run as a collaboration of BMY Health Pakistan and BMY Health Canada. Experience certificate to mentors will be issued by BMY Health Pakistan and training opportunities will be provided by BMY Health Canada with training certificate issued by them. Mentors will be required to follow the standards learned in these trainings in their respective projects.
