Bushra Anwar

Chief Executive Officer, BMY Health Canada

Bushra Anwar is an International Medical Graduate and a Public Health specialist trained from Pakistan, where she gained the experience of innovating systems at community, and organizational level. She was recognized as a mentor for innovators. 

Through her mentorship, many healthcare professionals learned the skills of research, critical thinking, healthcare planning, coordination and change management. 

In Canada she got training from McMaster University in Applied Clinical Research program, and is now serving SAHI institute (Fraser Health), as Wellness Ambassador. She is also a member of Canadian Bioethics Society, and Public Health Association of BC. 

She aims to support healthcare professionals in Canada and beyond, for innovation, research, entrepreneurship and bringing change in community for adopting positive health behaviors with more focus on immigrants health and other vulnerable communities. Her affiliation with her startup in Pakistan and collaborations at national level is a strength for her startup in Canada to support Canadian researchers with resources and scope internationally, specially in context of developing country research with high disease burden. 

Misbah Jahangir

Chief Executive Officer, BMY Health Pakistan

Dr. Misbah Jehangir is an experienced doctor and pediatrician who shifted to Community Medicine in order to pursue her goals in preventive pediatrics and completed FCPS Community Medicine in 2021. She worked at different positions throughout her career and is well versed in matters of health along with management.

She was a distinction holder medical graduate from King Edward Medical University, 1992. Now she is a mentor for many Community Medicine professionals and has contributed significantly to their skill-building. She worked on projects related to Hepatitis, Breast Feeding, and Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood illnesses in Peri Urban area of Lahore.

She is currently serving as Assistant Professor of Community Medicine in Fatima Memorial Medical College, Lahore. Her aim is to ensure the general health and well-being of the communities across the country and her belief is that a healthy child would lead to a healthy citizen.

Yousaf Ali

Director BMY Health Pakistan

A well-qualified and dedicated Public Health Professional working as Assistant Professor Community Medicine in University of Shaqra, Saudia. He is trained from Agha Khan University, Karachi in Community Health Sciences where he gained experience in leading healthcare research projects.

 He won a Research Grant of US$ 5000 and received Best Resident of the Year Award in 2017 and 2019 at AKUK. After his FCPS training, he worked as Health Manager in Medical Emergency & Resilience Foundation, Pakistan and successfully implemented ICU, out-patient, outreach, and capacity building services, and coordinated with health department, provincial government, other teaching hospitals, donors and international organizations. He also worked as Manager TB regions in National TB Control Program, Pakistan.

He contributed to health risk assessment and environmental risk assessment of river Ravi basin, MultiTex project and training of textile workers, managers and trainers to change their safety behavior, and “A+ (Azithromycin plus) trial”. He is well versed in research, planning and assessments, health sector reforms, quality management in health services, health financing and cost analysis. 

Owais Raza

Senior Researcher

Dr. Owais Raza is a public health professional with a passion for health equity and social justice, currently holding the position of Assistant Professor at the School of Public Health, Dow University of Health Sciences. His research focuses on spatial epidemiology, maternal and child health, and infectious diseases. Dr. Raza brings a wealth of experience in teaching public health courses, supervising graduate theses, and leading research projects. Previously, he served as Deputy Director of Research at PPHI Sindh, overseeing research activities across 22 districts of Sindh. His career trajectory has been shaped by a commitment to addressing health disparities faced by underserved communities.

Throughout their career, he has demonstrated proficiency in advanced statistical programs such as R, STATA, and SPSS, along with GIS tools like ArcGIS and QGIS. His research interests span a wide array of topics, including the spatial variability of childhood morbidity, infectious diseases, and health inequalities, as evidenced by his publications. He is not only a proficient researcher but also a dedicated peer reviewer for esteemed journals such as BMC Public Health, BMJ Open, and International Journal of Equity in Health, contributing to the advancement of public health knowledge worldwide. Currently Dr. Owais is affilitated with University of Nebraska.


Mustafa Ali

Senior Researcher

Mustafa is a research associate in health informatics at the Centre for Health Informatics. Before joining the University, he designed, monitored and evaluated public health initiatives particularly in tuberculosis and reproductive health in Pakistan for more than 10 years. During that period, he supported data-driven public health

programming, by highlighting existing health inequalities in the country. At the Centre, he focuses on digital collection of patient-generated health data, and using that data to improve care and outcomes of culturally diverse people living with long-term conditions. He also works on methods to explore and address unfair and avoidable health outcomes caused or exacerbated by digital health technologies, particularly ethnic health inequities.

Shafiur Rahaman

Senior Researcher

Dr. Shafiur holds a master’s degree in public health, majoring in Epidemiology. He also has a fellowship degree in Biosafety and Biosecurity from Germany. He is a dedicated public health professional with extensive experience managing and implementing research and development projects across diverse sectors, including health, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), mental health, and humanitarian crises. 

He has extensively worked in urban and rural parts of Bangladesh, Rohingya refugee humanitarian response in Cox’s Bazar, parts of Africa (Zambia and Uganda), the Philippines, the UK, and Australia. He has been collaborating with international organizations such as UNICEF, Action Against Hunger, Eawag, Ranas, and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

His expertise includes WASH, behavior change, program management, implementation research, study design, monitoring and evaluation, and stakeholder engagement, contributing to global public health policy and practice. 

Shafaq Mahmood

Senior Researcher

Dr. Shafaq Mahmood is a seasoned healthcare professional based in Poland, boasting a strong academic background and extensive experience in public health and research. Beginning her medical career at Rawalpindi Medical College, she earned her MBBS before pursuing a Fellowship in Community Medicine (FCPS) at The Aga Khan University (AKU), Pakistan, focusing her research on the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on adolescent mental health in Pakistan. During her residency at AKU, she played key roles in various health projects, including the Rural Health Program (RHP) in district Thatta and the "School Health Initiative" under the Prospective Urban and Rural Epidemiological study. Currently Shafaq is pursuing her PhD in public health from Australia.

Javeria Mansoor

Senior Researcher

Dr. Javeria Mansoor, an FCPS Trainee in Community Medicine at The Aga Khan University, is a motivated and organized healthcare professional with a background in MBBS from Karachi University. She's a skilled educator and researcher, holding certifications in Research Methodology and Digital Marketing. Javeria has a proven track record of academic excellence and has presented her research at various conferences, including the AKU PGME Conference. With her strong communication and multitasking skills, she's ready to contribute to remote research collaborations.
